The cost of energy is rising. But so is the tax on non-renewable energy sources.

The UK government has to reduce its CO2 emissions and supply 15% of energy from renewable sources by 2020. To achieve these targets, a range of levies such as the Climate Change Levy (CCL), and Renewables Obligation (RO) have been imposed.

Depending on your energy contract, some of these charges may be passed on to you, increasing your energy bill.

The benefits of changing to renewable energy

Win businessBy avoiding the CCL and RO levies, you can reduce the cost of your energy bills.
Get sign off after installationThe use of renewable energy is included within several accreditations.

  • Carbon Trust Standard: an independent certification of environmental sustainability. Companies who achieve this save an average of £322,000 a year on their energy cost.
  • ISO 14001: this covers environmental management. It aims to provide assurance that environmental impact is being measured and improved.
  • ISO 27001: [think I must have the wrong number for this one as it seems to be security management – please advise]

Making the change

As the costs of non-renewable sources continues to rise, one of the biggest cost savings can be to make the switch to alternative sources. These could include:

  • Biomass
  • LED
  • Solar
  • Wind
